Cupcakes are a classic dessert that are familiar to all of us. With their delicious tastes and creative appeal, they can be hard not to love. But although everyone knows and loves cupcakes, I sometimes find it hard to locate the best ones. Thus, I decided to start a series of posts called Project Cupcakes to hunt down all the best cupcakes in Vancouver. My first stop was a Edible Flours, a vegan bakery in Kitslano that serves cupcakes sans eggs and dairy. I decided to pay a visit to this bakery because I was curious as to how a cupcake of this sort would taste.
Edible Flours has an open kitchen where all its on-site baking is done. Paul, the owner of this bakery, told me that he discovered all the recipes on his own through a series of trials and errors. With some tweaking here are there, he eventually got all his vegan pastries to taste perfectly as he wanted.
Each day, Edible Flours serves four different cupcake flavours. On the day of my visit the available flavours were mocha, pumpkin spice, chocolate peanut butter, and raspberry. However if you’re ever purchasing a quantity of cupcakes for an event, you can always pre-order any flavour on their menu in advance.
The Raspberry and Chocolate Peanut Butter cupcakes are both absolutely delicious and not noticeably vegan. The icing istasty and not too heavy, and the cupcake itself is moist with minimal fat. I quite like and enjoy this bakery’s healthy approach to cupcakes.
I also sampled some of Edible Flour’s vegan chocolates. The Cranberry Chocolate Balls are very rich in flavour and imitate the taste of milk chocolates almost exactly. In fact, I even feel that they are less dry than most milk chocolates.
I really appreciate how Edible Flours caters to those with restrictive diets, allowing them to try out fantastic sweets that they normally could not. But even for someone like me who can eat both eggs and dairy, I still found the products here to be satisfying and I liked that they were health-conscious. So next time you have a craving that you don’t want to take a toll for, stop by Edible Flours for the perfect solution.
