It’s morphin time!

The sleepy streets of Richmond’s Steveston Village are set to be overrun with intergalactic baddies and high-kicking heroes over the next few weeks as the big screen adaptation of the Power Rangers comes to town.

Set for our screens in 2017, the big screen adaptation of the hit ’90s show stars Elizabeth Banks as arch-villain Rita Repulsa, along with an all new crew of Mighty Morphin heroes in the form of Dacre Montgomery, Ludi Lin, RJ Cyler, Naomi Scott, and Becky G. Filming will take place from April 25 to May 19.

“Filming provides significant economic benefits and the City of Richmond is committed to being a film-friendly city,” Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie said in a release. “We are excited to welcome Lionsgate and Saban Brands’ production of the Power Rangers. While filming takes place, Steveston businesses will still be open. We encourage the public to visit the village to enjoy all Steveston has to offer, and, at the same time, catch a glimpse of a major movie shoot.”

The majority of filming activity will take place on Moncton Street between First and Third Avenue. Additional filming will happen on Bayview Street between First and Third Avenue, and at the intersection of Moncton Street and No. 1 Road.

Employing more than 300 people, the production will cause road closures and intermittent traffic control as well as limiting street parking.
