UPDATED: Police advise motorists to avoid Powell Street due to ongoing incident

Updated (3/10 3:41 pm) – The VPD has issued the following update: “Shortly before 2 p.m., he [the suspect] exited his suite and was taken into custody without incident. The thirty-nine-year-old Vancouver man remains in custody, facing potential charges for assault.


The VPD have released a statement warning people to avoid Powell Street between Commercial and Clark Drive, due to an ongoing incident.

“Shortly before 5 am, police were called to 1516 Powell Street in relation to an alleged assault,” Staff Sgt. Randy Fincham said in a statement.

“Members of the Vancouver Police Emergency Response Team have been called to the scene and will be attempting to negotiate the safe surrender of the suspect.”

Powell Street between Woodland and Commercial Drive currently remains closed.
