Polyamory tips talk swinging into Vancouver this September

Ever wondered what it would be like to have an open relationship? Bored of monogamy? Curious about polyamory? Your questions are about to be answered.

A new talk in Vancouver, Monogam’ish: Essential Conversations for Healthy Relationships, will be offering non-monogamy tips to all comers on September 29.

The event at The Beaumont Gallery is being organized by Vancouver man Ryan Thomas, who usually hosts the Modern SexTalks podcast.

“I believe there is too much stigma around sexual expression in our culture,” Thomas told Daily Hive. “It creates shame… and prevents a lot of people from reaching out to learn more.”

By having an event solely focused on sexuality and relationships, Thomas hopes people can learn about “alternative” dynamics without feeling like anything is wrong with them.

“Also, I believe that personal growth is the catalyst for mindblowing sex and healthy relationships – and sexuality is a great way to facilitate a person’s introduction to self-actualization.”

The Monogam’ish event will feature four speakers, who will all share their experiences of monogamy, polyamory and how to have an open relationship:

  • Mel Mariposa – A relationship coach, who now lives in polyamory – honest, consensual non-monogamy – after a threesome, an affair and a divorce.
  • Tara Caffelle – A couples therapist, who will outline how to stay connected, and make your love last, even if you’re diving in to bed with non-monogamy.
  • Cindy and James – A polyamorous couple who have been together for 19 years, and run Into The Lifestyle, one of North America’s largest swinging networks.

And even if you’re not up for polyamory, Thomas believes techniques from the “poly” world can offer help with monogamy.

“Monogamous relationships often avoid hard conversations, and it results in a cheating partner, your infidelity, or a relationship breakdown,” reads the event invite.

“The information and stories shared… from people who’ve “succeeded” in the non-monogamous realm will undoubtedly help strengthen your monogamous bond.”
