A new initiative that is meant to break down the complex issues of the day and promote ideas and dialogue between millennials in a casual, laid-back atmosphere is launching this month in Vancouver.

Known as “Policy Pop-Ups,” the inaugural event will take place on Monday, August 13, from 6:30 pm to 8 pm, at The HIVE ā€“ 128 West Hastings Street.

“We think that millennials are not as engaged in current issues because the proper outlet has not existed,” said Policy Pop-Up founder, Alyson Tan.

Tan said the events will operate on an ad-hoc basis.

“Once something becomes newsworthy and relevant, we swiftly step in to host a fun event that breaks down a concept with experts on-hand to answer the questions millennials have been wondering, but unable to ask.”

With that in mind, the discussion topic for the group’s first event will centre around the “complex federal purchase of the Trans Mountain Pipeline.”

The event will include a panel of experts from various academia and association backgrounds.

“To distinguish itself from other conferences, an ‘average Joe/Jill’ will moderate, and press the panel to break down complicated terminology and concepts into everyday terms,” said Policy Pop-Up founder, Alyson Tan.

Those who are interested in the event, or in finding out more are encouraged to visit Policy Pop-UpsĀ online.
