[UPDATED] Police shut down Beatty Street due to possible explosive device (PHOTOS)

UPDATE – 11 a.m.: Vancouver Police have determined that the suspicious device is not an explosive and is no longer a danger to the public. Traffic in the area has been reopened.

EARLIER:

Vancouver Police have shut down Beatty Street between Georgia and Dunsmuir due to a possible explosive device.

“Police are dealing with a potential explosive device that was located in a vehicle after a traffic stop on Beatty Street near Dunsmuir,” VPD said in a statement. 

The VPD Emergency Response Team with the Explosive Disposal Unit is attending. Traffic is expected to be disrupted for some time and the public are asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
