A tree climbing competition will be taking place in Stanley Park this coming weekend.

It’s called the Chapter Tree Climbing Championship (TCC), and is hosted by the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture.

The organization works to foster a greater appreciation of trees and promote the professional practice of arboriculture – the cultivation, management, and study of individual trees.

Climbers participate in five events: an aerial rescue, belayed speed climb, ascent event, throw line, and work climb. The winner of the competition will go on to represent the Pacific Northwest on an international stage.

The event takes place on Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30 and is free for spectators. Preliminary events will run on Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. The “Master’s Challenge” will take place on Sunday from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.
