Planes clip wings at YVR

Two airplanes got a little too close for comfort at YVR this morning, when a United Airlines aircraft came into contact with the wing of a parked WestJet plane.

“WestJet flight 1722, Vancouver to Palm Springs, experienced damage to a winglet when it was struck at low speed by another aircraft being towed to a nearby gate,” Westjet’s Lauren Stewart told Daily Hive.

The flight was ultimately cancelled and “guests are being reaccomodated on another aircraft,” departing about three hours later, she added.

Though there was damage reported to both planes, neither plane was carrying passengers, and there were no reports of injuries.

And those with flights to catch today needn’t worry.

In an email to Daily Hive, YVR’s Terry Chou said there is “no impact to operations at YVR.”
