Birds of a feather flock together. That’s why Parliament Interiors — Vancouver’s Modern Home Furniture and Contemporary Home Decor Store — is again bringing the owls from O.W.L. Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society to their Gastown location.
“In case you didn’t already know, a group of owls is called a ‘Parliament’ – that’s why we have a lot of owl-related items in our store, such as jewelry, candles, figurines, art and more,” said co-owner Colette Soros. “So we figured why not get the real thing in our store. It’s a rare opportunity to see these birds of prey live!”
The owls will swoop in to Parliament Saturday, October 4th between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Buy any owl-related items while the Strigiformes are in-store, and Parliament will donate a portion of the sale to O.W.L.
It’s a great chance to get a good peek at their cute little beaks and ask them questions, although their handlers will likely be the ones to answer. The four hour event is really a Q&A with the bird’s handlers from O.W.L. and curious clients.
O.W.L. is a non-profit organization whose volunteers are dedicated to public education and the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned birds.
“Often the birds have been injured because of humans,” said Soros. “Someone has littered, which attracts rodents and the birds prey on those rodents and then get hit by cars as a result.”
For anyone hoo, sorry, who gives a hoot about these winged creatures, it’s the event of the year!
