Why golfing has the potential to be your new favourite hobby

Jul 19 2018, 6:47 am

You should play golf.

Wait — just hear us out for a second.

Forget every notion that you have of the stereotypical golfer right now. You don’t need to own a checkered polo shirt to play, and you don’t even need to know how. Some people may consider golf an elitist sport, but in reality, anyone can play (and even win) the game.

Before you do anything, let us take you through a couple of points as to why golfing has the potential to be your new summer hobby.

You’ll get better every single time

If you’re going to the driving range, you’re basically repeating the same actions over and over (and over). Sure, it’s all good practice learning to hit the ball, but when you take on the golf course you’ll feel the buzz of competition in a totally different way. Play with experienced golfers and learn as you go; there’s no pressure. You never know, you could be the next Tiger Woods (without all the… well, you know).

You get to enjoy Vancouver’s beautiful three-month summer

When the sun is shining this summer, you’re going to want to be outside. And it’s only a matter of time until you become bored with the patio life, so why not head to the golf course to work on your skills instead? You’ll get to enjoy the weather as you make your way around a pristine course, and you might even get to drive a golf cart, too.

It’s basically a thinly-disguised group hang

Your entire view of golf will be transformed forever once you stop seeing it as a snooty sport and start seeing it as an excuse to spend all day playing outside with your friends, enjoying a shared activity and competing in a casual (or not-so-casual, depending on your personalities) environment. Think of all the memories you’ve been missing out on by rejecting the call of the golf course, and make up for lost time.

Don’t get fooled into bringing too many clubs

When you’re on the course, you’re allowed carry as many as 14 clubs in your bag. However, you don’t actually need that many, because you’re not the Emperor of Golf Kingdom. Golf Digest suggests starting with a driver, a putter, and a sand wedge. Keep it simple (and your bag light) until you’re a pro. You don’t have to impress us, we’ve got your back either way.

You can get all your gear in one easy place

That being said, you do need some gear to enjoy your first time on the green, and thankfully, you can get everything you need to play golf at Par-Tee Golf in Richmond.

The store covers 10,000 sq. ft. and selects only top performance brands with unbeatable quality, so shopping here is almost like having a head start before you even hit the golf course.

These include a host of exotic overseas golf brands such as Itobori, Miura, GIII, XXIO, Epon, and exclusive brands of apparel like JL, Dance with Dragon, Pearly Gates, Galvin Green, G/Fore. You won’t find a selection like this at any other golf store in Vancouver, so your best option is to go straight to Par-Tee before you tee off.

The Par-Tee Golf online store will be opening soon, allowing you to shop the full collection of golf clubs, apparel, footwear and accessories. For now, you can choose the items online that you plan on buying or stop by the store to get a feel for your new gear in person.
