This week's outdoor Movie Night on the Square is trading in Murray for Spielberg

Outdoor Summer Movie nights at the Vancouver Art Gallery just got a big upgrade.

Or at least, this week it did.

Fresh Air Cinema and the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association (DVBIA) have announced that this week’s movie, Lost in Translation (2003), has been replaced with one of Steven Spielberg’s latest creations – Ready Player One.

The movie takes viewers into the Oasis, a virtual universe where players around the globe are racing to find “the egg” – a digital Easter egg that would give the player who finds it control of an entire virtual world.

Vancouver Art Gallery’s outdoor movies take place every Wednesday evening until August 29. Fresh Air Cinema’s large, four-storey inflatable screen will pop up and create the perfect urban environment to catch a flick – just be sure to bring your own lawn chairs and blankets!

The newly-redesigned Square opened last June after being closed for almost a year. The event-friendly plaza now boasts a water fountain, more than 45,000-sq-ft, and capacity for 1,500 people.

You can check out every movie playing this summer here.
