Our Cityride has just announced the route for Vancouver's biggest casual bike ride

Get ready for the biggest non-competitive cycling event of the summer – Our Cityride.

Taking place on August 19, the event is set to bring thousands of Vancouverites together to celebrate local community spirit in a ride that will be held in the heart of many cities globally.

Participants of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part in the fun-filled 17-kilometre cycling event. The route for the event has just been announced and it’s set to cover the entire downtown area in one traffic-free loop.

Riders will begin in Yaletown and follow through the streets of Chinatown, Gastown and Coal Harbour, seeing iconic landmarks like the Steam Clock and Gassy Jack statue en route. You’ll get to take in the picturesque vistas of Stanley Park and English Bay along the way before finishing back at David Lam Park where a festival awaits.

David Lam Park will be hosting an event from 3 pm where you’ll find plenty of food, expo vendors, a kids zone free bike valet, and even a beer garden until 9 pm. So you can drop your bike off and have a beer in the sun to cool down when you’re finished the cycle.

Riders under 18 can register online to participate free of charge and registration costs $20 for those aged 18 or older. Participants aged 19 or older will be automatically entered into a grand prize draw for a trip from Vancouver to Amsterdam on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines for four guests – including accommodation. All registrants will also receive $35 off RYU urban athletic apparel among other giveaways.

“As one of Vancouver’s most historic landmarks we are excited to have Gastown showcased in the inaugural Our Cityride event. It will be an opportunity for thousands of participants to experience Gastown from another perspective,” said Leanore Sali, executive director of the Gastown Business Improvement Society.
