An Ontario man is disgusted after he discovered a shopping cart full of raw, unwrapped meat at his local grocery store in North York.

Michael Pearl of Thornhill witnessed the unsanitary sight at a Real Canadian Superstore at Dufferin and Steeles and posted a photo of the shopping cart on Facebook last month.

In the photo, you can see at least a dozen raw and unwrapped steaks placed in a shopping cart.

The photo is accompanied by a caption that says, “At my local Loblaws Superstore (Dufferin & Steeles) looking for some good rib steaks. Lo and behold I found them! In a grocery cart.”

Pearl said he’s “sure this violates every public health statute,” adding that Toronto Public Health will want to know about this.

He also added that the incident is “disgusting” and “dumb.”

Since being posted, Pearl’s photo has caused quite the stir online, with many people commenting “disgusting” and that he should “report this.”

A spokesperson for Loblaws told Daily Hive the photo depicts an incident that is not in line with food safety procedures and “absolutely should not have happened.”

‘The store immediately addressed this with the colleague, and we’ve reminded all departments of our protocols to ensure nothing like this happens again.”

The spokesperson said Loblaws apologizes for any concern and said customers “can have confidence in the safety of the meat purchased at this store.”
