North Vancouver RCMP are investigating a house fire in the municipality’s Lynn Valley neighbourhood that killed a 61-year-old man.

According to a news release, at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, firefighters responded to a 9-1-1 call to a detached single-family residence in the 2000 block of Wembley Drive.

A victim was discovered in a bedroom only after the fire had been extinguished, which happened quickly. The man was rushed to Lions Gate Hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries.

He was the only occupant in the residence at the time of the incident. The RCMP’s Arson Unit, in conjunction with local firefighters and the B.C. Coroner’s Service, is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.
