Honour the dead at Mountain View Cemetery's Night for All Souls

Oct 3 2017, 4:25 am

In many cultures around the world, October is a time for many to show respect for those who have passed on.

And at Vancouver’s Mountain View Cemetery, a series of non-denominational sacred gatherings, curated by artists Paula Jardine and Marina Szijarto is meant to help attendees do just that, in the form of the annual All Souls event.

Since 2005, Jardine has been artist in residence at Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver, creating the annual All Souls event with long time collaborator Szijarto. She is also artist in residence at Royal Oak Burial Park.

Originally from England, Szijarto s the Art Director/Designer at Vancouver’s Mountain View Cemetery’s ‘All Souls’ event. For the last 15 years, she has also pioneered the use of Shrines to honour the dead in Vancouver community based events.

According to its organizers, the “unique cultural event” is meant to offer the public “an opportunity to remember their dead, whether interred at Mountain View Cemetery or not, in a gentle atmosphere of contemplative beauty.”
