New Year's Eve Vancouver fireworks and fun will go on in any weather

Jan 1 2017, 6:03 am

Flurries or downpour need not dampen anyone’s plans to head down to Coal Harbour to take part in the festivities and see the fireworks for Concord’s New Year’s Eve Vancouver, as the event will take place no matter the weather.

“We’re prepared for all weather conditions with indoor ticketed areas and free outdoor programming,” remark organizers of the second annual event.

The street festival on Canada Place Way kicks off at 6:30 pm, with 20 food trucks, street entertainers, two free concert stages featuring over a dozen bands and artists– including The New Pornographers, The Sheepdogs, Meghan Patrick, and Wintersleep – and two fireworks displays at 9 pm and midnight.

The Concord’s New Year’s Eve fireworks shows will be even longer than those that welcomed in 2016 at the inaugural NYE Vancouver event.

Of course, those looking to ring in 2017 at NYE Vancouver will need to dress accordingly, which means bundle up. According to Environment Canada, tonight’s forecast includes a steady chance of flurries or rain, and a temp hovering around 1C.

Organizers also note that they have been working closely with the City of Vancouver and Translink in order to ensure spectators can get in and out of the event area safely.

“We’re looking forward to a family-friendly, safe and fun celebration tonight!” add the organizers.
