The Richmond Night Market’s massive yellow duck has yet to appear as organizers have a conundrum to overcome this year: what should its name be?
The 50-foot tall duck made its first appearance at last year’s night market as a subtle nod to the original Hong Kong yellow duck tub that floats in Victoria Harbour. Of course, the Richmond Night Market strives to bring the same night market experience that one can find in Hong Kong’s various city street night markets.

This summer, the night market’s yellow duck will be paired with a giant lollipop as part of this year’s theme of ‘Candy Castle’. A 30-foot tall, 50-feet wide Candy Castle with a forest of lollipop trees is part of this year’s attraction. Visitors can enter the donut-shaped entrance and buy candy-themed souvenirs and candy from all over the world.
The landmark inflatable yellow duck was one of the most photographed attractions at the night market in 2013.
Organizers are asking the public to submit name ideas for naming the duck! One winner will be selected to win a VIP pass of free entry throughout the entire 2014 Richmond Night Market season.
