Charges have now been approved in connection with a fight inside a Port Coquitlam home that took the life of a 36-year-old man last weekend.

Coquitlam RCMP responded to a home in the 2300-block of Atkins Avenue early on November 4, and found a man suffering from serious injuries.

He was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries. A second man was arrested at the home.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation team said Monday that Elwood Poorman has been charged with second-degree murder, and is slated to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Jonathon Shingoose.

Cpl. Frank Jang said it appears the incident is isolated and there is no further risk to public safety.

The relationship between the men, or a possible motive for the murder, has not been made public.
