Mount Seymour opens for skiing and snowboarding today

Dec 2 2017, 3:20 am

First there was Grouse, then there was Cypress and today, North Shore mountain number three is officially ready to welcome skiers and snowboarders back for another season, as Mount Seymour officially opens.

The lifts start turning at 1 pm, after a special opening ceremony at 12:50 pm, which features a blessing from Marge George, a Tsleil-Waututh elder.

And with the hill reporting 32 centimetres of fresh snow in the past 24 hours, it looks like the snow gods have smiled on the mountain.

Seymour’s Mystery Peak Express chair will be open from 1 pm to 9 pm, along with the Goldie Magic Carpet, the Rockstar Energy Pit, and Mushroom.

The toboggan area will also be open from noon to 4 pm.

The North Vancouver mountain kicks off the season with a 133 cm snowpack at the summit, and and 107 cm snowpack at the base.
