VPD issues reminder to riders of 'noisy motorcycles'

Keep it down.

That’s the message from Vancouver Police to owners (and riders) of noisy motorcycles.

In a release, the VPD said unnecessary noise from motorcycles is a commonly received complaint.

And with the warm weather bringing more bikes onto the roads, they’re also reminding riders to be “safe and considerate” of others while they are out enjoying the sun.

A recent decision in BC Supreme court means that officers no longer need to use a decibel meter to measure the noise from exhaust systems, and instead can use subjective observation.

The fine for unnecessary noise is $109 under the Motor Vehicle Act.
