Aug 14 2018, 3:48 am

The 2018 Monstercat Compound is less than two weeks away.

After a smashing debut last year, that saw thousands of visitors pour into the grounds of Monstercat HQ, Canada’s number one electronic music label has prepared for an even larger celebration.

The community celebration will take place on Saturday, August 25 in the heart of Railtown – one of Vancouver’s most eclectic neighbourhoods.

While there’ll be plenty of time to explore the festivities on the day of, here’s a head start on planning your day.

Here’s a list of 10 things to do at the 2018 Monstercat Compound.

1. Witness a DJ’s rise to fame

Over the past summer, Monstercat hosted a mix contest on Splice, which welcomed DJ’s from around the world to compete.

The eight finalists battled head-to-head for the title, the winner of the Grand Prize playing the opening slot at Monstercat Compound.

The winner will be showcased from 2 to 3 pm, so make sure to stop by and get a first listen to this up-and-coming talent.

2. Immerse yourself in the Gaming Zone

Attendees of the compound will be able to play a selection of world-renowned games. Rocket League, Just Shapes & Beats, and Electronauts, to name a few – all of which feature Monstercat music.

Cozy up right next to Monstercat staff and artists and test your skills while rocking to pulse-pumping tunes.

3. Show off your dexterity at the Monstercat gold claw machine

Put your skills (or luck) on display, win a prize, and do it for an amazing cause.

The gold claw machine at the 2018 Compound has a stash of goodies hidden inside, generously donated by Pioneer Canada, Landyachtz, Ableton, Jam Industries, Mobi bikes, and more.

All participants have to do to participate is show your Monstercat Gold member credentials or donate a toonie to Music Heals Canada.

4. Learn what it takes to be a music producer

Monstercat prides itself on empowering people through education and opportunities. Stop by the music education area to test out some awesome products from brands like Roland, Ableton, and hop on the Nimbus bus to get some tips from the pros.

5. Splurge with a mini-shopping spree

Stop by the Monstercat merch tent and snag yourself some best-selling apparel and accessories.

Make sure to arrive early though, last year’s lineup went around the entire block. As an added bonus, there will also be a few items that are exclusively sold at the event. Be the first to get your hands on these premium pieces.

6. Dance nonstop to the music of some of Monstercat’s finest artists

Once again, Monstercat will turn their HQ into party central with their main stage on Railway Street. It’s a mini-festival in Vancouver’s own local backyard with international hitmakers Vicetone, Conro, Dwilly, Bishu, Tails, and Orri & Friends.

7. Discover new local talent

A major development at Monstercat Compound this year is a second stage programmed by Groundwerk and powered by Music BC.

This exciting stage will feature underground sounds from Joel West, Derrick Vnuk, Aida, Shreshth, and a local contest winner eager to show off what they’ve got. It’ll be just steps away on Dunlevy Street so bouncing back and forth from the main stage will be a breeze.

8. Channel your inner art lover and participate in creative activities

A prime selection of Monstercat’s award-winning album arts will be up for display. Best of all, the art will be up for auction with proceeds going to Music Heals.

Local artist Ilya Viryachev will be painting a live rendition of the Monstercat Instinct Vol. 2 art, while two artists hand-selected by Maker Labs will be putting their talent up for viewing.

9. Fuel up and stay hydrated

Remember, this is an event presented by Sapporo Canada so you can be sure to expect a generous supply of their refreshing beer on hand. Hopping Mad Cider will also provide a tasting experience on this sure-to-be-sunny day.

When you start to get hungry, you won’t have to look far for culinary delights from Bandidas Taqueria, Bobbie’s Authentic Indian & Fusion, and Railtown’s Tailgate Barbecue.

10. Spend the afternoon as a VIP in the exclusive chill-out zone

While the event is free to attend with RSVP, there is a VIP option for those in the mood to treat yo’ self. Get your hands on a mini merchandise gift box, access to VIP views of the stage, and shorter lines for drinks. VIP tickets can be purchased here for $27.50 (including fees).
