Linda Sin brings a little Seoul to Vancouver’s shopping scene with Middle Sister, a boutique specializing in Korean runway fashion. Officially opening its doors in August, Middle Sister neighbours other local boutiques on West 4th, but brings an entirely different international aesthetic.
September 23 marked the official store launch of Korean ready-to-wear brand LIE (Love, Identity, and Ego), a bold and vibrant collection featuring colourful patchwork and fur-sleeves. The boutique currently has national exclusivity to LIE, with the goal of carrying all brands exclusive to B.C., if not Canada. Middle Sister might be just the solution for Vancouver fashionistas looking to make a style statement.
The boutique rounds out nicely with a curated collection of Korean accessories as well as Garance Doré stationery, and jewelry lines from Paris and Greece. What’s great about the boutique is that if you can’t afford the clothing (ranging in the low to mid hundreds), there are hidden treasures to be found, like leather wrap belts available for $5.99.
The name reflects the owner’s own middle child status. Having grown up receiving hand-me-downs from her older sister, Linda wanted a space to express her unique take on fashion. In fact, in the six short weeks that the store’s been open, it has attracted a strong middle sister following: shoppers intrigued by the store’s name would come in to swap middle child stories.
When asked about how Middle Sister will make a difference to Vancouver shoppers, Linda says, “It’s for people to broaden their horizons, to see things in a different way and to be open. Just because it’s not your typical Vancouver wear – where it’s just black or really casual – why not fur sleeves? Just try something: be bold, be different.”
When you shop at Middle Sister, the edgy fashion will speak for itself; you definitely won’t feel like the ignored middle child.
