Canadian singer Michael Bublé got a mention at the BRIT Awards in the UK last night, after he backed out of hosting to care for his son Noah as he receives cancer treatment.

Speaking from the stage, new host Dermot O’Leary said, “Truth be told, we’d much rather be down there watching Michael Bublé up here host the show.”

Co-host Emma Willis said, “We so wish he could have been with us this evening and everybody at the BRITs sends him all of our love and fingers crossed, we will see him again next year.”

Bublé was announced as the host of the BRIT Awards, one of the British music industry’s biggest awards ceremonies, in October last year.

But in November, it emerged his three-year-old son Noah had been diagnosed with cancer. Bublé and his wife, actress Luisana Lopilato, were “devastated” about the prospect.

Both put their careers on hold, and by January, Bublé had pulled out of hosting the BRIT Awards saying he needed to care for Noah.

In February, he offered a happy update on Noah’s progress, saying the boy had been responding well to cancer treatment in the US.

“We are so grateful to report that our son Noah has been progressing well during his treatment and the doctors are very optimistic about the future for our little boy,” said Bublé in a statement at the time.

“He has been brave throughout and we continue to be inspired by his courage. We thank God for the strength he has given all of us. Our gratitude to his doctors and caretakers cannot be put into words.”
