Most of Vancouver hasn’t yet heard of Mia Moth; only a handful can say they have seen them live or heard their music.
Mystery seems to play into their image and despite their small profile and short lifespan, their resume already shows some noteworthy items including 8 shows in New York, 9 shows in Mexico, where they played for crowds as large as 2000 and opened for Mercury Award nominees Metronomy, plus locally a handful of support slots including the Canadian debut of MTV VMA Award nominee Kreayshawn.
Their sound is a mixed bag, somewhere between Santigold, early Gwen Stefani and Siouxie Sioux, and somehow the Vancouver hip-hop scene has been embracing them despite their non-hiphop sound.
According to blog reviews, their live show seems to be their greatest selling point. Lead singer Kara Fraser has been praised for her stage presence and energy which never seems to dip as you’ll see here from a recent appearance at Fortune Sound Club:
They recently released 11 free songs on 11.11.11 which you can download at www.miamoth.com
