The rain and snow will be staying away tonight when the festivities kick off at Concord’s New Year’s Eve Vancouver in downtown.
According to Environment Canada’s latest forecast, the skies will be mainly clear with some cloud cover. There is no risk of any precipitation, and fog is not expected to form.
Daytime temperatures will reach a high of 4°C by 4 pm, then it will gradually dip to the freezing point by start of the midnight fireworks.
There is a five-minute Family Fireworks show starting at 9 pm followed by a more intense, spectacular 12-minute Midnight Countdown Fireworks at 12 am. Both shows are launched from an offshore barge in front of Vancouver Convention Centre West in Coal Harbour. Warning shots will be fired throughout the hour-long period before each show.
Other festivities include a free street party – starting at 7 pm – on Canada Place Way with two outdoor concert stages, 20 food trucks, roving street performers, and a digital projection art piece.
In addition to the free street party and outdoor fireworks viewing areas, revellers can also take in the festivities at the Premium Indoor Party held inside the Vancouver Convention Centre. There will be live performances and entertainment for adults, and activities and entertainment for families with younger children in the RE/MAX Family Zone.
Additionally, the Premium Indoor Party – including the Family Zone – is the only place that serves liquor at Concord’s NYE Vancouver.
Conditions in Vancouver are a stark contrast to other parts of the country, where bitter cold has forced the cancellation of the live performances at the outdoor NYE celebrations in Calgary, Toronto, and Ottawa.
