Masked man wielding meat cleaver arrested in East Vancouver

A masked, meat-cleaver wielding man was arrested in East Vancouver Tuesday evening, after threatening a pedestrian and fighting with police.

Just after 7:30 pm, police were called to the area of Broadway and Commercial Drive after a 25-year-old man was allegedly threatened by the suspect.

With the public’s help, officers found the man, who was still on Commercial Drive, near East 7th Avenue.

But he didn’t cooperate with police, choosing instead to “resist and fight,” even after being tasered.

In the end, no one was seriously injured, but VPD Const. Jason Doucette called the situation one that “that could have ended badly for everyone.”

Officers recovered the meat cleaver at the scene and found a second knife in the suspect’s possession after he was arrested.

“We are thankful this person was quickly located and no one [officers or the suspect] was seriously hurt,” Doucette added.

The suspect, 39-year-old Vancouver resident Jeremy Ross Lindstrom, was medically assessed at the hospital before going to jail.

He remains in custody and has been charged with a number of offences, including:

  • assault with a weapon
  • disguising face with intent to commit an offence
  • possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • uttering threats
  • willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer

The reason for the attack is still unclear and the victim and suspect are not known to each other.
