Vancouver police are searching for a suspect after a man stole $70 worth of goods from a Dollarama store, cut an employee then fled the scene on Thursday.

According to Const. Brian Montague, two Loss Prevention Officers at the store on Cordova Street saw a man leave without paying at about 3:30 pm.

In a release, Montague said they confronted the suspect outside the store behind Harbour Centre, but he pulled out a knife and began to fight.

After giving one of the store security personnel a minor cut, the suspect then fled into the Harbour Centre parkade, said Montague.

Although police managed to retrieve the knife and some of the man’s discarded clothing, said Montague, they were unable to track the suspect down.

The investigation is ongoing, while police wait for surveillance video from the dollar store, says Montague.
