Vancouver man in custody after stealing ambulance Thursday evening

A 59-year-old man is in custody after stealing an unoccupied ambulance Vancouver General Hospital on Thursday evening.

Vancouver Police Staff Sgt. Randy Fincham told Daily Hive that the ambulance was stolen around 6 pm.

Officers boxed the ambulance in at Oak Street and West 10th Avenue, before using a bean bag gun to subdue the driver and take him into custody.

After being treated for minor injuries, the man – a Vancouver resident – was taken to jail.

He now faces a number of charges, including Theft Over $5,000, Hit-and-Run, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Resisting Arrest.
