Man seriously injured after being shot while inside vehicle in Surrey

An early-morning shooting in Surrey’s Cloverdale neighbourhood sent one man to hospital with serious injuries on Thursday.

Around 3:30 am, Surrey RCMP responded to reports of shots fired in the 17400 block of 64th Avenue.

When they arrived, officers found a man inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was taken to hospital and police said that even though his injuries are serious, they are not considered life-threatening.

“The suspect or suspects fled the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival,” said Surrey RCMP in a release. There are no suspect descriptions available yet.

Now, officers are conducting a neighbourhood canvas and speaking with witnesses to obtain further information.

“The investigation is still in its early stages but initial indications are that this is likely a targeted incident,” police said. “It is too early to determine if this incident is related to drugs or other shootings.”

Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted as officers investigated the incident, but the eastbound lanes of 64th Avenue have since reopened.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502. Those who would like to leave a tip anonymously can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or leave a tip online at solvecrime.ca.
