A 38-year-old Pitt Meadows man and his dog have died in a fatal multi-vehicle crash that took place in Maple Ridge on Tuesday evening.

According to a release from Ridge Meadows RCMP, at approximately 7:30 pm on Tuesday night, police received a call about an accident involving four cars on Golden Ears Way at 203rd Street.

First responders from Ridge Meadows RCMP and the Integrated Collison Analyses Reconstruction Service (ICARS) arrived on scene.

Witnesses reported a Toyota Tacoma truck was travelling eastbound at a high speed when it crossed the centre line colliding with another car.

The 38-year-old driver of the Toyota Tacoma and his dog died on scene as result of the crash.

The drivers of the other three vehicles were taken to the hospital and one suffered serious injuries. The driver of a fourth vehicle suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

“Early indications are that speed may be a contributing factor in the accident,” said Ridge Meadows RCMP in a release.

Roads were closed for nearly eight hours and reopened at 3:30 am.
