Man's death at Richmond Hospital on Friday night considered a homicide

Police are investigating after a man died in Richmond on Friday night.

Just before midnight, Richmond RCMP attended to the Richmond General Hospital, responding to reports of an unresponsive male who had arrived there.

When officers got to the hospital, they were led to a man who was suffering from injuries “consistent with foul play,” said Richmond RCMP in a release.

Despite best efforts to save him, the man succumbed to his injuries and his death is considered a homicide.

As a result, Metro Vancouver’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is taking over the investigation.

“This is believed to be a targeted homicide, and at this point in time, it is not believed to be related to the recent acts of violence Richmond has seen,” police added. “IHIT will be working in partnership with the Richmond RCMP.”

No further information has yet been provided.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-4448 or by email at [email protected]. Alternatively, tips can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
