Man dies after downtown Vancouver stabbing on Granville Street

One man has died and two men are in custody following a stabbing in downtown Vancouver.

Shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Sunday night, police and paramedics responded to Granville and West Georgia Street after receiving reports of a fight and a man that had been stabbed.

When police arrived, they found an unconscious man on the sidewalk who had suffered a life threatening stab wound. He was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery.

A short time later, acting on tips from witnesses, police arrested two men who are believed to have been involved in the incident. Detectives from the Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crime Section were called in to conduct the investigation.

Around 2:00 a.m., the 28 year-old victim died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

This is Vancouver’s first homicide of 2014.
