One man is in police custody after a fire gutted a residence in Surrey during the early morning hours of Saturday.

According to CTV, the incident occurred just after 1 a.m. at the 11400 block of 142 Street. The day before, someone allegedly called the tenant and made death threats, specifically threatening to burn the house down.

Three people were living in the residence at the time and they were all able to escape without any injury.

Adjacent residences were also evacuated as a precaution andĀ roads in the area were closed.

The fire has been deemed suspicious by police. No details have been released about the man who has been arrested.
