Shortly after 10:30 a.m. this morning, the Vancouver Police Department received a call to 9-1-1 regarding a small child crying, a man yelling, and blood on the walls in the hall of an apartment building in the 3300 block of Kingsway.

Officers arrived to investigate and were confronted by a man with a weapon. He was challenged by police who drew their firearms, and the man was shot.

Police officers discovered a woman in a suite with what appeared to be multiple injuries. She was declared dead at the scene. A young girl believed to be five or six years old was taken to hospital with injuries.

The suspect shot by police has also been taken to hospital.

The VPD Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the woman in the apartment. As this is a police-involved shooting, the IIO has been notified.
