The West Vancouver Police Department is sharing a warning to residents to “be vigilant and review personal safety” with their children after the report of an indecent act.
The event took place on Tuesday, May 22 when the West Vancouver Police received a report around approximately 4 pm. A teenaged girl was walking near the 24th Street and Ottawa Avenue area when a male, driving a grey SUV, approached her for directions. When she drew closer to the car, she saw that the man had his genitals exposed.
The teen reported that the male attempted to make conversation with her, but drove off after she told him to go away. The girl was able to make it home safely and report the incident to family and police afterwards.
She described the suspect as being between 40 to 50 years of age and having a chubby build and short black hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a yellow and red plaid shirt with dark jeans.
West Vancouver Police conducted an extensive patrol around the area, however, neither the suspect nor vehicle was located. The investigation is still ongoing.
Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact West Vancouver Police at 604-925-7300.
