With the celebrations and get-togethers during the holiday season, it’s easy to be tempted into overindulging on calorie rich foods. Chef Tom, executive chef for President’s Choice®, has come up with a few handy tips to help you stay on track over the holiday season.

PC Gift Basket

Plan ahead. When attending a holiday party or get together with friends and family, bring a nutritious dish to the party. This way, you know there’s at least one healthier food selection for you to enjoy. To make sure you stay on your holiday budget, you can use the PC Plus card to earn points that can be redeemed for dollars off your grocery bill. The PC Plus app also makes it easy to plan your meals with personalized recipes and shopping lists, making it easier to plan for holiday entertaining.

Control your portions. Instead of eating a full size dessert portion, opt for dessert choices that are already in smaller pieces. For example, the bite-size PC® Praline Pecan Caramel Cheesecake Lollipops will still delight taste buds and satisfy any sweet tooth, but their miniature size will help avoid overindulging.

Fill up on vegetable sides. Try filling half of a plate with vegetables as an easy strategy to increase vegetable intake and help to decrease intake of calorie rich foods. And, a quick way to get some vegetables on the table without spending the time peeling and chopping- try the PC® Roasting Vegetables Kit or the PC® Broccoli Florets.

Make healthier swaps. Swapping sour cream with Greek yogurt in recipes or as a base for homemade dips and dressings, or swapping salt for fresh or dry herbs are easy alternatives to improve eating habits without affecting the delicious flavour of favourite meals and recipes.

With the holidays indulge with your favourite treats and foods, but remember the helpful tips above so you don’t overdo it.
