The concept of ‘home’ seems to be a significant one in the life of Mac DeMarco.

The Canadian indie rocker was born in Duncan, raised in Edmonton, moved to Vancouver after graduating high school in 2008, re-located to Montreal to begin recording as a solo artist, and then settled in New York.

He writes, demos, and records in his home studio. He made his 2014 Polaris Prize shortlisted album, Salad Days, in his bedroom. And on his new mini-LP, Another One, DeMarco invites us over for a cup of coffee at his house in Far Rockaway, Queens.

DeMarco’s music — sweet, easy listening alt-rock — is, also, something to come home to. His familiar formula of twinkly guitar, funky bass, and pretty melodies are steeped in authenticity and honesty; on Another One, they’re peppered with sentiments of late-night loneliness and lost love.

In the midst of an extensive world tour in support of his latest effort, DeMarco is set to return to one of places he’s called home — Vancouver — for a two-night stint at the Commodore Ballroom on October 30 and October 31.

Another One can be purchased on Bandcamp or on iTunes. Tickets for the concerts are sold out, but some may be made available at the door the night of the event. Keep your eyes on the venue’s social media outlets for further details.
