7 bars in Vancouver where you can celebrate a chill New Year's Eve

Somewhere between Netflix and chill and heading to a fancy party, there’s you, wanting to do something fun on New Year’s Eve, but without all the formalities.

Depending on how you choose to celebrate it, NYE can be pretty expensive and stressful when all is said and done. So it’s nice to know that like-minded restaurant staff in the city have planned chill, come-as-you-are dinner events and celebrations to take any anxiety out of planning for this occasion.

Here are seven places to head for a low-key New Year’s Eve dinner in Vancouver.

33 Acres

This spot is hosting a five-course dinner with ticket entry, but after the grub comes a party with tunes, beers, and good times. Doors open to the public after the dinner, where the shindig will continue until 2 am.

Bells and Whistles

The new-ish neighbourhood haunt will be featuring special kegs, tunes from Rhek The DJ, and complimentary bubbles at midnight. Tickets are $20 in advance (available for purchase online or at Bells and Whistles) and $25 at the door. Expect burgers, skee-ball and craft beers.

The Cascade Room

This Main Street restaurant, known for its UK pub vibes, will kick-off the party at 2 pm on Sunday, December 31. Enjoy music from DJs, great food, and drinks. Cascade Room will celebrate two New Year’s Eve countdowns complete with party favours. There will be an honorary UK countdown will take place at 4 pm; the Vancouver countdown will happen at midnightThere is no cover charge for this and reservations will be accepted from 2 to 10 pm.

The Charles Bar

A $20 ticket will get you into The Charles Bar after 10 pm for dancing and a countdown at the local Gastown haunt.

Colony Bar Kits and Main

The ultimate No Pressure New Year’s Eve party at Colony Bar on Main Street and Colony Bar in Kitsilano on December 31, for those who want to celebrate in Vancouver, without the hefty price tag of an OTT party. Enjoy a budget-friendly $5 snack menu, $18 buckets of Hey Y’all or Coors Banquet, and lagers for $4.75.

Timber

Buy a ticket and head to Timber to ring in the new year in a full blue jean Canadian Tuxedo. Included in your pre-paid ticket? A pint of Main Street Brewing’s beer on tap when you sit down, a seat for some great music from Brad Pedwell, and a whack at the beaver piñata.

Juke Fried Chicken

Juke will be open from noon to 9 pm on Sunday, December 31 offering its signature menu of southern-fried fare – think fried chicken (in regular or spicy varieties), sticky pork ribs and a mouthwatering menu of seasonal snacks, salads, sides, and desserts. They’ll also be offering some special features and guests are welcome to stay for a low-key dinner in the dining room or pick up a take-out order to enjoy at home.
