Lions Gate Bridge shut down due to major accident

DH Vancouver Staff Dec 03, 2013 9:17 am

Update: As of 9:40 a.m., the bridge has reopened to traffic in both directions.

The Lions Gate Bridge is now closed in both directions due to a major accident on the bridge involving two vehicles.

A car traveling southbound spun out of control and hit another car in the centre lane. The collision occurred on the bridge’s midspan and cars stuck in the backup are currently not permitted to turned around.

Emergency crews are on scene.

It is not known when the bridge will reopen. Commuters should avoid the Lions Gate and take the Second Narrows Iron Workers Memorial Bridge as their alternative route.
