Nighttime delays coming to drivers on the Lions Gate Bridge

Jun 13 2018, 10:51 pm

The BC Government’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has just issued a traffic advisory affecting drivers who will be using the Lions Gate Bridge this weekend.

Drivers are warned to expect delays on the bridge, as crews will be in the process of removing the temporary steel plates that were in place for bridge rehabilitation work.

Not only that, but an extra layer of asphalt on the road will be removed and the lines on each lane will be repainted.

To mitigate the delays from construction, crews will be working overnight, when traffic volume is the lowest.

On Saturday, June 16, from 8 to 10:30 pm, one lane will be open in each direction.

From 10:30 pm to 8:30 am the next morning, the Lions Gate Bridge will be operating on single-lane, alternating traffic.

All drivers should allow extra time in case of heavy traffic volume and delays. Drivers are also recommended to use the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge as an alternative route.

The sidewalk on the Lions Gate Bridge will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.
