Evening and nighttime delays coming to Lions Gate Bridge this weekend

Jul 20 2018, 10:09 pm

The BC Government’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has issued a traffic advisory affecting drivers who will be using the Lions Gate Bridge this weekend.

Drivers are warned to expect “heavy traffic volumes and delays” over Saturday night while crews remove temporary bridge plates and paved transitions – two features that were installed during previous rehabilitation work.

In order to mitigate the delays from construction, the work will take place during evenings and overnight when traffic volume is the lowest.

On Saturday, July 21, from 8 to 10 pm, one lane will be open in each direction.

From 10 pm to 8 am the next morning (Sunday, July 22), bridge traffic will be reduced to single-lane, alternating traffic.

Drivers are suggested to give extra time in case of heavy traffic volume and delays or to use the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge as an alternative route.

All travellers are reminded to obey signs and watch for traffic control personnel.

The sidewalk on the Lions Gate Bridge will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.
