7 Davie Street spots for late night eats after the Celebration of Light
The Honda Celebration of Light, held over a few nights annually at English Bay, brings people from all around the lower mainland to marvel at the spectacular fireworks show that lights up the night sky.
As it is such a popular summer event, thousands of people make their way into downtown Vancouver…but as soon as the sky goes dark, traffic madness ensues.

Save yourself the stress and boredom of waiting in traffic, and instead make your way up Davie Street and enjoy some late night eats. The best part, if you are taking the Canada Line home, these eateries are are on your way to the Yaletown-Roundhouse station.
Here are seven places along Davie Street offering late night eats; the 2017 Honda Celebration of Light takes place Saturday, July 29; Wednesday, August 2; and Saturday, August 5.
La Belle Patate
Nothing beats the mighty poutine when it comes to Canadian comfort food. La Belle Patate will satisfy your fried potatoes smothered in gravy and spongy cheese curd cravings, but if you prefer an even more Quebecois poutine, they have you covered with their Montreal smoked meat. So pull up a chair and dig into a delicious poutine and wash it down with a cold beer at this poutinerie.

Breka Bakery
Breka Bakery has a cult following amongst the night owls as this bakery is open around the clock. Sweet or savoury, Breka has treats to satisfy everyone in your squad. The baked goods at this cozy cafe are almost reminiscent of your grandmother’s baking, all flavour and none of the fuss. Try their flakey apple strudel with nut filling or one of their many freshly baked cookies. And if your night is only just getting started, re-energize with a cup of joe.

Donair Dude
Donair Dude has somewhat of a cult following when it comes to their delicious meat packed donairs. A local favourite amongst the late night crowd since Donair Dude happens to also be the only Donair shop that keeps their doors open long into the night. The lamb, beef, and chicken is slowly roasted for ultimate flavour and tenderness before being stuffed into a pita or tortilla. Everyone who eats at Donair Dude leaves happy with a stuffed belly.

Basil Pasta Bar
Basil Pasta Bar sits right at the beginning of Yaletown, but unlike its pricey neighbourhood, this authentic Italian restaurant dishes out pasta at affordable prices. Using fresh ingredients and daily house-made sauces, watch the chefs expertly toss your pasta in a saucepan over an open flame before plating the generous portion of pasta. The SkyTrain station also happens to be a few short blocks away, so if you like, you can even get your big Italian feast to go and it will still be warm when you get home.

Los Amigos Taqueria
Just past the iconic rainbow crosswalk on Davie street, you will find Los Amigos, a traditional Mexican Taqueria. Their 4 inch tacos are piled high with flavourful fillings, bringing a taste of Mexico to Vancouver’s West End. The best part, since the tacos are so small, you get to try fillings like the Al Pastor, a spicy marinated chicken that is topped with pineapple, onion and cilantro or the Picadillo which is ground beef with finely chopped onion, carrot, potato and corn finished with lettuce and creamy Chipotle sauce. Cactus is commonly consumed in Mexico and Los Amigos is serving this staple food in their Nopales taco, tender cactus in Chipotle sauce finished with cilantro, onion and Mexican cheese.

Firecrust Neapolitan Pizzeria
Pizza is often the top choice when it comes to late night eats as it tastes amazing and is filling, but Firecrust Neapolitan’s pizza is a game changer with its fresh toppings and sauces generously spread over the hand-stretched dough before being cooked to perfection in a wood fire oven. You will be ravenous from watching the cheese bubble and the dough starting to charr from the heat of the fire.
