A massive section to the facade of Ladner Leisure Centre’s exterior fell apart earlier this morning and forced an evacuation of the building and immediate area.
According to CTV, the top 30-feet of the east-facing portion of the stucco facade broke apart at 10:30 a.m. which left a large area of the wall open.
The building was completed 25 to 30-years ago and structural damage was likely the result of water and wind over time.
Officials and engineers are surveying the building and have closed the building’s weight room, fitness gym, ice arena and back parking lot as a safety precaution. However, the swimming pool at the centre remains open at this time.
