Vancouver’s taco game is about to get another established contender: Whistler’s La Cantina taco bar is opening up a downtown Van location.

Taking over the now-defunct Nelson Grocery Store at 755 Nelson (at Granville), La Cantina is about to launch into their space reno, with an eye to open in October.

A rep for the restaurant tells Daily Hive the 1,500-square-foot Vancouver La Cantina location will boast 50 seats, and will offer a menu of tacos, burritos, soups, and salads familiar to fans of the Whistler restaurant–with some fresh new items set to debut at the OG outpost this September ahead of the Vancouver launch.

The eats at La Cantina include options that are gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegan, and their bev menu includes everything from Mexican soda pops to beer and margaritas.

La Cantina is from the same team behind Whistler’s popular Mexican Corner restaurant; their taco shop is located in the Village right across from Olympic Plaza, with an Express location in Function Junction.

The affordable counter-service taqueria, with meat and veg tacos running in the $3-4 apiece range and burritos in the $11-12 zone, aims to offer customers a kick-back place to hang out. Vancouver customers will be welcome to eat and hang at their new La Cantina when they open from 11 am to 10 pm daily.
