Two-time gold medalists Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse have been named by the Canadian Olympic Committee as Canada’s flag bearers for Sunday’s Sochi 2014 Closing Ceremony.

The duo won two-woman bobsleigh gold in Vancouver 2010 and successfully claimed their reigning champion title on Wednesday at Sochi. Humphries and Moyse, who hail from Calgary and Prince Edward Island, won their event with a time of 3 minutes, 50.61 seconds. Their American counterparts won silver and bronze after completing their four runs in 3 minutes 50.71 seconds and 3 minutes 51.61 seconds.

Countries rarely send two athletes to fill in the shoes of a flag bearer. The last time this was practiced by Canada was at Salt Lake 2002 when figure skating pairs partners Jamie Salé and David Pelletier walked into Rice Eccles Stadium together.

At the 2010 Closing Ceremony, figure skating bronze medalist Joannie Rochette marched into BC Place with the Maple Leaf flag.

The 2014 Closing Ceremony at Fisht Olympic Stadium airs live on CBC at 8 a.m. PST, Sunday, February 23. The Ceremony will be repeated throughout the day on CBC.
