John Oliver had some strong words for Canadians voting in today’s election:
“Don’t vote for Harper.”
Oliver’s monologue on his show “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” was all about the October 19 Canadian federal election. None of the three major candidates were safe from Oliver’s biting humour, but Prime Minister Stephen Harper was the main subject of his critiques.
Pointing to Harper’s niqab scandal and the “zero tolerance for barbaric cultural practices act,” which many critics say fear mongers against Muslims, Oliver implored Canadians not to vote for Harper in the upcoming election. Mike Myers, who is from Scarborough, Ontario, made a surprise guest appearance on the show to help him deliver the message.
Oliver did mention a Canadian law that prohibits foreigners such as himself to influence the vote, lest he face six months in jail and a $5,000 fine. Still, he didn’t care, and told Canadians not to vote for Harper in no uncertain terms.
