There are brunches, and then there are big brunches – the kind of meals that will keep you full for the entirety of your hungover Saturday or busy Sunday.

The brunch at Joe Fortes is one of those big ones.

A culinary institution in Vancouver, the seafood and chop house is a popular destination for lunch and dinner, but come weekends, all the attention is shifted to the restaurant’s next-level brunch service.

Every dish for the mid-morning menu is hefty and plated to be a feast for the eyes, Chef Wayne Sych has crafted every meal to suite the needs of brunch lovers but still maintain that special Joe Fortes signature twist.

To be expected, Joe Fortes offers a selection of fresh selection of fresh oysters, along with the staggering Seafood Tower on Ice, but there are also some new options up for order that you need to sink your teeth into.

The Chorizo Frittata is a hearty combo of cured chorizo, roasted vegetables, tomatoes, and feta cheese. With a side of perfectly-crispy potatoes and ketchup, this dish will hit the spot regardless of how much you had to drink the night before.

Say Aloha to another new addition Joe’s brunch service lineup – the Loco Moco.

Inspired by Chef Sych’s time in Hawaii, this dish consists of a grilled beef patty, pastrami fried rice, fried eggs,  and a demi glaze.

If you’re feeling wild, hungry, or both, try Joe’s epic Chicken & Waffles. This dish marries tender crispy coated chicken with fresh buttermilk waffles and uses a maple brown butter and chili glaze to bring it all together.

Served as a tall tower of chicken-waffle goodness, we recommend getting this dish as something to split between the table so you’ll have room for other offerings on the menu because the portions size of this dish is very generous.

French Toast (Hanna McLean/Daily Hive)

For those with a sweet tooth, we recommend the classic impressively-sized French Toast from Joe’s.

The bread is made in-house daily on weekends and topped with bananas, rum, salted caramel, blueberry compote, and served with a side of whipped cream.

Of course, we can’t forget to mention the Lobster Benedict, a mix of mushroom and leek white wine cream sauce, poached eggs, and hollandaise. A signature brunch dish for this spot, it’s a guaranteed way to go into a food coma afterwards – especially if you combine one of Joe Fortes’ fresh mimosas with your food.

And let’s be real, mimosas pair nicely with everything at brunch, that’s why it’s our favourite meal of the day, right?

Joe Fortes serves brunch on weekends from 11 am to 3:30 pm.
