Jeans Day is almost here and that means it’s time to dig out your favourite denim to support BC Children’s Hospital.

The fun province-wide fundraiser is celebrating its 27th year on Thursday, May 4, and it’s easy to take part with your family, friends, classmates, or co-workers.

All you need to do is purchase a $20 lapel pin or $5 button at any participating retailer across BC, then rock it on Jeans Day with your favourite denim. Don’t sweat if you can’t make it to an official retailer, you can buy a virtual pin or button online. You can even Instagram a photo in your comfy attire to show your support on social media using the hashtag #JeanUp.

All money raised from Jeans Day will go toward the Excellence in Child Health Fund – a vital fund the hospital relies on for urgent needs. This includes specialized research into childhood diseases, purchasing and upgrading of medical equipment, and education programs for families.

You can buy a pin at a number of local retailers including Save-On-Foods, Overwaitea Foods, PriceSmart Foods, Urban Fare, Bulkley Valley Wholesale, London Drugs, Thrifty Foods, IGA, and Country Grocer on Vancouver Island.

And by supporting Jeans Day, you’ll be helping BC Children’s Hospital provide care to children like Faris Abdulwahab.

Faris was diagnosed with a genetic disorder commonly known as brittle bone disease, for which there is currently no cure. The inspirational 13-year-old is the Champion Child for Jeans Day as has been treated by two doctors at the hospital who believed in a treatment that could save him.

Thankfully, the treatment coupled with Faris’ determination paid off and he is now improving every day, with a lot less bone fractures than he had in previous years.

“I want to live my life to the fullest by doing what I like to do and contribute my talents to the world. I believe that even with my disabilities, nothing can stop me from achieving my goal. I want to be an inspiration to children with disabilities,” Faris told BC Children’s Hospital.

Join the Jeans Day athlete ambassadors – Canucks players Daniel and Henrik Sedin, Whitecaps FC’s David Ousted, and BC Lions’ Jason Arakgi to show your support on May 4.

Remember to use the hashtag #JeanUp and post your denim outfit on your social media channels tagging @bcchf. By doing so you’ll be entered to win $500 worth of Mavi Jeans. And that’s a pretty sweet prize.
