Canucks select Jake Virtanen 6th overall in NHL Entry Draft

With the 6th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, the Vancouver Canucks have selected hometown boy Jake Virtanen from the Calgary Hitmen.

Abbotsford’s Jake Virtanen, 17, becomes the first B.C.-born player the Canucks have drafted in the first round since Cam Neely in 1983. He weighs in at 213 lbs. at 6-feet tall.

In 71 games played with the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen, the left winger scored 45 goals and recorded 26 assists for 71 points.
