Isolation in Vancouver

Is it true that Vancouverites have a relationship with nature and not people? Or does it merely come down to the city is what you make it? The short film “Alone Together in Vancouver” explores urban isolation in this lovely city of ours.

Many will tell you that if you don’t put yourself out there, you will attract just that, nothing. Or is Vancouver a special scenario, a city full of unfriendly people, that no matter how hard you try, you’ll never befriend your neighbour.

The isolation, or perceived isolation, is a symptom that many cities face and not just Vancouver.

The Vancouver Complex is rooted in wealth, inferiority, pretentiousness and social interaction. For a young city, with a booming downtown, it will take some time to create that neighbourhood vibe. It can’t be manufactured. When people lay down roots in a neighbourhood and decide to live there for a long period of time, that is when the city will open up to you.
